Six Saving Tips for a Weekend Getaway

Budget and Save

If you’re having trouble escaping from the hustle and bustle of work, consider taking a weekend trip.

Though short, weekend getaways can give you just the break needed to get back your groove. Here are a six tips to plan a great weekend getaway and save some money:

1. Avoid peak weekends
When you are planning a weekend away, try and plan it on a weekend that is less busy. For example, instead of traveling to New York around Christmas time, try and go in February or March. This can not only save you money, but save you the hassle of fighting other hordes of people trying to explore.

2. Shop flash-sale sites
Keep an eye on travel website with getaway deals. They always have some sort hotel or flight that is too cheap to pass up. You can also sign up for their emails to keep an eye on upcoming specials.

3. Only carry on
Checking in luggage not only costs money, but costs precious time. The wait to pick up checked luggage at the baggage claim add to your travel time. Not to mention, there is a chance that the airlines could lose your luggage, rendering you luggage-less for most of your trip.

4. Look for local deals
Checking sites like Groupon or Living Social can give you opportunities to find deals on activities you that might not necessarily be on your radar. Keep an eye out and you might be able to catch a cooking class!

5. Make the drive
If you are planning to go somewhere close, consider driving. You will save money and observe the nature and scenery around you. Make sure to bring lots of snacks and music so you can rock out and eat the time away. Make the trip about the journey, not the destination.

6. Budget your time
Time is also one of the things that you are trying to save. With such a short period to do the things you want, you will need to prioritize. Figure out what you want to do most and go from there. Don't spend your entire trip in a taxi trying to see everything. So plan ahead to ensure you have lots of time for activities.
