Don’t avoid the writing on the wall when it’s obvious you need to sell. If you’re seeing one of the signs below, it’s more than likely time to sell.

1. You're outgrowing your home

Whether your family is growing or simply growing up, it might be a cause to sell your home. There may be a baby on the way with the need for a new bedroom. Your in-laws might be moving in. Or, you may just need more room for entertaining those teenagers and all that comes with them.

2. Your financial situation has changed

This could be for better or for worse. Whether your income has increased (or decreased), your lifestyle may need an adjustment. A recent promotion or inheritance may allow you to move into a nicer home or a more sought-after neighborhood.

3. Your life situation has changed

Family members are moving out - whether that be due to kids growing up or the result of a divorce, it might be time to downsize. There is no sense in living in a home that is too big for you. Give your finances a break and look at something a little smaller and more affordable for your budget.

4. You're getting older

Let's face it - the signs of aging aren't fun. When your kids leave the nest and your house is too much for you to maintain on your own, the option to sell might be looking more in your favor. Consider your retirement plans and look for a home with the essentials all on one floor. It makes no sense to burden yourself with inconveniences in your future.

5. You think your house is a lemon

If the to-do list seems too long or unexpected repairs arise, there may to be too much involved to make it the house that you're happy with. And, it's okay to let go and start looking for another home in your price range. After all, there could be a buyer out there that likes the challenge of a fixer upper. Life's too short to be unhappy with your home, and there's no harm in shopping around for the house that's best for you.
