May 1, 2025 (Jefferson City, Mo). Established in 1954 by Bob and Jo Ellen Scott, Scott's Concrete has played a pivotal role in the construction industry at the Lake of the Ozarks. What began as a small earth-moving business quickly evolved into a leading ready-mixed concrete supplier, thanks to Bob's vision and mechanical expertise.
A World War II Navy veteran, Bob Scott returned home after the war determined to contribute to the booming construction efforts following the creation of the Lake of the Ozarks and the building of Bagnell Dam. Initially, Bob worked in earth moving but soon recognized a need for ready-mixed concrete in the area. His first fleet of trucks was a challenge, with Bob spending countless hours under old trucks to keep them operational. Jo Ellen Scott, while raising their four daughters, also played an active role in the community, notably helping establish the first Kindergarten at the Old Linn Creek School.
In 1962, Bob began working with his daughter, Jane, who gradually took over the company’s bookkeeping. By 1970, Jane was handling all payroll, payables, and accounts receivable, and eventually took full ownership of the company in the late 1990s.
Throughout the years, Central Bank has been a key partner, playing a pivotal role in the company’s success. From the very beginning, the bank has supported Scott’s Concrete with essential financial services, including securing loans during challenging times. Their continued partnership has been especially crucial in helping navigate the evolving landscape of banking and fraud prevention. Central Bank’s commitment to Scott’s Concrete is a testament to their shared history of trust and mutual support, ensuring the company’s resilience and growth in an ever-changing industry.
The construction industry has seen its share of challenges, particularly during the 2008-2009 recession. Despite a 50% drop in sales and the surrounding community experiencing numerous foreclosures, Scott’s Concrete persevered. In fact, during those tough times, Jane’s relationship with Central Bank allowed her to continue operations, even as the industry faced drastic downturns.
Today, Bob and Jo Ellen’s legacy continues through their daughter, Jane and grandson, Scottie Martin who now serves as Vice President of the company. Scottie is instrumental in handling day-to-day operations, equipment acquisition, and sales, and has also expanded the family business to include Scott's Greenworks, a trash service company.
Scott’s Concrete is also deeply committed to supporting the local community. The company’s philosophy of “you get what you give” has guided its generous contributions to local charities and schools, especially through the Community Foundation of the Lake. Bob and Jo Ellen Scott have always believed in giving back, and their family continues to uphold that tradition today.
“We are truly grateful for the support we’ve received from the lake community and Central Bank,” said Jane Martin. “Concrete is locally produced and consumed, so supporting local is an easy choice for us.”
As Scott's Concrete celebrates its 70th anniversary, the Martin family remains committed to their community, their business, and their legacy of quality service and dedication.
